University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Health Plan in Pittsburgh has unveiled a mobile application that will allow its customers to access their personal health records in the palms of their hands.

The app allows commercial insurance members to access virtual member ID cards, a mobile personal health record and contact information for recently visited providers from a personalized list.

Members also can check the status of their claims and view flexible spending account balances. The app also is available to non-members who can use it to shop for individual insurance, search the UPMC Health Plan network for providers or contact customer service.

The app is available for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry smartphone users. The organization plans to provide regular updates including the most requested features.
