ProVation Order Sets Named Overall Best Performer Among Order Set Solutions in KLAS Clinical Decision Support Report

Oct. 7, 2014- Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that ProVation® Order Sets, powered by UpToDate® Decision Support, was ranked by KLAS Research as having the best overall performance among order set solutions in its report, “CDS Order Sets and Care Plans 2014: Choosing the Best Option.” This marks the third time ProVation Order Sets has achieved top ranking in the annual report on the clinical decision support solutions market.

ProVation Order Sets outscored other solutions on key indicators including overall satisfaction,  improving patient outcomes and effectively standardizing care, as well ease of use, proactive service, quality of phone/web support and delivering service that lives up to expectation. High scores were also earned for overall product quality, quality of implementation, as well as delivery of new technology and ability to support integration goals. Further, 98% of users surveyed indicated that ProVation Order Sets was part of their organization’s long-term plans.

KLAS, an independent healthcare IT research firm, compiled the 2014 report based on interviews with 139 providers. It covers whether integration with EMR systems has gotten better, how order set and care plan solutions impact patient outcomes and how vendors and providers can increase that impact.

ProVation Order Set users interviewed for the report specifically highlighted its easily consumed content and integration with UpToDate for current evidence-based decision support. The report notes that, in particular, “deep adopters who have shown positive patient outcomes also point to pushing out updates as key to success.”

One clinician described the successful outcomes achieved with tighter integration between ProVation Order Sets and their EMR system by highlighting their experience adding a rapid screening test to ease an emergency department (ED) backlog during an influenza outbreak, stating: “When we make changes to our protocols, those changes are implemented overnight in our EMR…Using the order sets, we were able to communicate with the lab…and by embedding the second test in the emergency department order sets, all ED physicians had that readily available to them. So the education for that was just done in real time, and we totally took care of the backlog.”

A central component of a healthcare organization’s care quality and core measures improvement strategy, ProVation Order Sets improves patient outcomes and quality of care by providing evidence-based order set templates co-developed with the editors of UpToDate. Customers achieve a return on investment through lower costs of care and the efficiencies of an intelligent clinical content management system. ProVation Order Sets also contains over 11,000 unbreakable links to UpToDate, the resource of choice for more than 850,000 users worldwide.

“It is an honor to have our customers acknowledge through KLAS the strong partnership they have with Wolters Kluwer and the role ProVation Order Sets plays in helping them achieve their long-term patient care goals,” said David Del Toro, Vice President and General Manager, Clinical Documentation, Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions. “To be recognized as overall best performer for a third time is a truly gratifying and is testament to how the ‘voice of the customer’ guides our solutions.”
