Philips partners with Dutch researchers to establish imaging institute

Philips Healthcare and three Dutch academic healthcare research institutions—University Medical Center Utrecht, Utrecht University and Eindhoven University of Technology—have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a public-private consortium focused on developing new methods for disease diagnosis and treatment based on medical imaging.

The consortium will focus on treatments for cancer, brain disease and cardiovascular disease, as well as establish the Institute for Diagnostic and Interventional Imaging.

Knowledge, methodologies, software and technologies acquired through the consortium’s work will be translated into the industrial manufacturing of new systems that can be used in clinical practice. Philip’s development and production site in Best, the Netherlands, will be used to bring new technologies to market, and the partnership will be expanded in the future to include other private partners as well.
