CHIME Certified Healthcare CIO Program goes global

The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) is increasing the availability of its Certified Healthcare CIO Program on a global scale.

The executive organization announced on Feb. 28 that healthcare CIOs seeking designation as a Certified Healthcare CIO (CHCIO) can take the required examination at any of 500 testing centers located in over 80 countries.

The 125-question exam features questions that test the knowledge and management skills associated with successful accomplishments as a healthcare CIO, according to a release. CHIME launched the program in 2009, and since that time 163 have earned CHCIO status and 51 have been designated CHCIO-Eligible.

To achieve the CHCIO designation, CIOs must have CHIME Member of Affiliate status, three years of experience as a CIO, a passing score on the exam and earn 25 continuing education units. Candidates without the three years of experience, but who otherwise meet the qualifications, are considered CHCIO-Eligible. Under the program, recertification is required every three years.

More information on the CHCIO exam is here.
