Blackberry, Nanthealth launch cancer genome browser
Mobile communications giant Blackberry and NantHealth, a cloud-based IT vendor, have unveiled a clinical genome browser that gives physicians access to patients’ genetic data on the BlackBerry Passport smartphone.
The NantOmics Cancer Genome Browser, which is fully encrypted, will enable deep, interactive reporting on genomics data for providers in a clinical setting. For example, it offers oncologists the ability to peer into the individual alternations that make each patient’s disease unique while highlighting treatment options, according to a press release.
On the Passport, clinicians will be able to view a patient’s chromosome at an individual base-pair level.
“BlackBerry technology has proven itself secure, reliable and powerful enough to be counted on in life-and-death situations. Its innovative form and functionality make BlackBerry Passport an ideal addition to a doctor’s medical kit,” said John Chen, Executive Chairman and CEO, BlackBerry, in a statement.
The genome browser will be demonstrated at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next month.
