App gives parents extra insights into NICU care

Being a new parent should be a joyous time, but many parents experience increased stress when a baby arrives earlier than expected. Nicolette, producers of technology for pediatric care, has developed a HIPAA-compliant application that gives parents full visualization on children while in the neonatal intensive-care unit (NICU).

Developed by Phil Martie and Jude Alcantara Martie after the birth of their twins 15 weeks early, NicoBoard offers parents insights on data visualization research curation and parent engagement. In response to feeling left out of the NICU care process, the Marties developed the app to reduce parent stress and boost engagement in care.

“Prior to my NICU experience, I dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur, but never pulled the trigger because it wasn’t quite right on paper,” Martie said. “After my heart-wrenching experience in the NICU and recognizing the critical need for patient empowerment, I launched the business at a time when it made absolutely no sense on paper whatsoever. It is just something I had to do.”
