Sorry, CEOs: Americans think you are overpaid

According to a recent Stanford survey of more than 1,200 people from throughout the United States, public perception is that CEOs are “vastly overpaid” and their salaries should be drastically reduced.

Seventy-four percent of respondents said they believe CEOs are not paid the correct amount when compared to what the average worker makes.

“There is a clear sense among the American public that CEOs are taking home much more in compensation than they deserve,” David F. Larcker of the Stanford Graduate School of Business said in a summary of the survey. “While we find that members of the public are not particularly knowledgeable about how much CEOs actually make in annual pay, there is a general sense of outrage fueled in part by the political environment.”
