Former NBA player sentenced to 40 months in prison for role in $5M healthcare fraud conspiracy

Professional basketball player Glen “Big Baby” Davis, 38, has been sentenced for his role in defrauding the NBA’s healthcare plan of $5 million over a four-year period.

In November of 2023, Davis was convicted of healthcare fraud and related wire fraud charges. He will now serve 40 months behind bars, followed by three years of supervised release.

According to coverage from USA Today, prosecutors for the federal government said Davis and other co-conspirators would submit bogus claims for dental and medical care that was never provided, pocketing the cash for themselves.

Davis was caught when he submitted a claim for $27,200 worth of dental work in Beverly Hills at a time when location data from his phone showed he was in Las Vegas.

More than 20 people were convicted in the kickback scheme, with former NBA player Terrance Williams being sentenced to 10 years in prison.
