Hospital and health system executives consider physician engagement as their top priority
Nearly 90 percent of hospital and health system executives are interested in working with physicians to improve quality of care and lower costs, according to a new poll. It was the number one area of interest for the respondents.
In all, 157 C-level executives participated in the survey, which was conducted by The Advisory Board Company in December 2014.
They said the top five areas with the biggest opportunity for performance improvements were engaging physicians in cost and quality improvements, redesigning service portfolios for population health, strengthening primary care physician alignment, utilizing direct-to-employer contracting and controlling avoidable utilization.
“Our research underscores that physician engagement is imperative to an organization's successful transition to value-based care models,” Chas Roades, chief research officer at The Advisory Board Company said in a news release. “Driving fundamental and sustainable changes to providers' business model is impossible without buy-in from the clinicians on the frontlines of patient care.”
