The best US hospitals in 2022-2023
Minnesota-based Mayo Clinic took top honors as the best hospital in the United States, according to a new 2022-2023 ranking by U.S. News & World Report.
The ranking, now in its 33rd year, evaluates hospitals in more than 30 medical and surgical services. The top 20 hospitals in the country are highlighted in an “Honor Roll” list for delivering exceptional treatment across many areas of care.
Mayo Clinic has topped the list for seven years in a row, followed by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at No. 2 and NYU Langone Hospitals at No. 3 on the list.
“For patients considering their options for where to get care, the Best Hospitals rankings are designed to help them and their medical professionals identify hospitals that excel in the kind of care they may need,” Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News, said in a statement. “The new cancer ratings provide patients facing surgery for prostate cancer or gynecological cancer with previously unavailable information to assist them in making a critical health care decision.”

When broken out among specialties, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center was ranked No. 1 in Cancer; the Cleveland Clinic was ranked No. 1 in Cardiology & Heart Surgery; and NYU Langone Hospitals was No. 1 in Neurology & Neurosurgery.
To rank U.S. hospitals, U.S. News factors objective measures, including survival rates, patient experience, level of nursing care and how successfully each hospital helps patients get back home. Hospitals are weighted on a variety of measures from data provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, American Hospital Association, professional organizations and medical specialists.
