CMS steps up its game on value-based care communications

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has launched a website breaking down the basics of value-based care. The site is suitable for educating healthcare consumers and professionals alike.

Under the guidance of CMS Innovation Center Director Liz Fowler, the site—called the Value-Based Care Spotlight—“aims to enhance understanding of value-based care as a cornerstone of transforming healthcare,” according to a Jan. 30 announcement.

“In value-based care, doctors and other healthcare providers work together to manage a person’s overall health, while considering an individual's personal health goals. The ‘value’ in value-based care refers to what an individual values most.”

The site features real-world stories of patients such as Lamont Mitchell of Washington, D.C., who learned how to align his diabetes management with his broader health goals, and Letisha Wadsworth of Brooklyn, N.Y., who is receiving dialysis therapy at home.

The website launch comes 13 months after CMS stated its aim to have all Medicare beneficiaries and most Medicaid beneficiaries in accountable care organizations by 2030.
