Representatives from a handful of major global imaging societies are collaborating on a “living document” that will outline a clearer set of ethics for the use of AI in radiology.

Zebra Medical Vision (Zebra-Med), an Israel-based deep learning imaging analytics company, announced it was granted CE certification for two of its AI-based products intended to speed up clinical review and diagnosis. One is for pneumothorax in chest x-rays and the other helps radiologists detect brain bleeds in CT scans.

The U.K. Department of Health and Social Care recently issued a new code of conduct for AI systems in an effort to ensure that only the topmost and safest AI-based systems are used by the National Health Service (NHS). 

Though the use of AI is still in early stages, its wide-reaching potential is expected to be felt by all industries in the near future. The technology is expected to contribute up to $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030, according to a PwC global AI study.

AI continues to make strides in medicine, with an expected market size in excess of $13 billion by 2025. But physicians and medical school deans at the Imagine Solutions Conference in Naples, Florida, stressed there is no substitute for the patient-physician relationship. 

Taha Kass-Hout, senior leader of healthcare and AI at Amazon, recently noted the technology and e-commerce giant sees potential in developing healthcare-related AI tools. In an interview with STAT, Kass-Hout didn't divulge many secrets about Amazon's activities with AI, but did talk about certain areas of focus, noting researchers have uncovered “tangible uses of AI."
