Mixed results for accountable care organizations

Of the 32 original Medicare accountable care organizations, 13 dropped out of the program after struggling to reduce costs, Modern Healthcare reports.

More than 400 accountable care organizations are participating in the Medicare program and providing care to approximately 7.2 million beneficiaries. However, a senior policy researcher noted during a Federal Trade Commission forum that most of the savings under the new payment models have been achieved through cuts to providers.
