Congressional leaders want to end Medicare cuts to doctors
With potential Medicare cuts looming, Congressional committee leaders on Thursday introduced legislation to end decreases in pay to physicians, The Hill reports.
If the sides do not reach a deal, physicians will see a 21 percent decrease in their Medicare payments as part of the Sustainable Growth Rate formula. The latest proposal would cost $210 billion, increase Medicare physician payments by 0.5 percent annually for five years and shift to a new system that pays doctors based on providing quality over quantity in care.
