Amazon hires another physician for employee medical clinic

Vin Gupta, a physician with a background in pulmonary medicine, has been hired by Amazon for its Amazon Care team as a principal scientist.

Amazon Care is the company’s virtual medical clinic for Amazon employees, piloting in Seattle. The addition of more hires could indicate the clinic concept will spread to other areas, CNBC reported. Amazon Care offers virtual care access for its Seattle-based employees, offering care for urgent issues such as colds, allergies, infections and other minor injuries, and for preventative health consults.

Amazon has made several high-profile healthcare hires to add to its team as the e-commerce giant expands into the healthcare space. Medical staff for Amazon Care are hired through another separate legal entity, Oasis Medical, according to CNBC.

Gupta has written about public healthcare topics across major media platforms and worked as a health policy researcher and assistant professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine, according to CNBC.
