The goal of health informatics systems is to enable smooth transfer of data and cybersecurity across the healthcare enterprise. This includes patient information, images, subspecialty reporting systems, lab results, scheduling, revenue management, hospital inventory, and many other health IT systems. These systems include the electronic medical record (EMR) admission discharge and transfer (ADT) system, hospital information system (HIS), radiology picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), cardiovascular information systems (CVIS), archive solutions including cloud storage and vendor neutral archives (VNA), and other medical informatics systems.

Q&A: Geisinger builds on HIE for Keystone Beacon Community

Earlier this month, the Department of Health and Human Services reported that Geisinger Health System will receive $16 million to create the Keystone Beacon Community, one of 15 Beacon Community initiatives across the U.S. to harness health IT to demonstrably improve patient care. Geisinger will use the grant to extend the Keystone Health Information Exchange (KeyHIE) and other health IT initiatives to five Central Pennsylvania counties and deliver improvements in patient outcomes within a three-year period.

EHNAC: Certain changes would bolster ONCs certification rules

The Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC), a non-profit standards development organization and accrediting body, has submitted comments to the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) regarding the proposed establishment of certification programs for health IT by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health IT, Department of Health and Human Services.
