North Dakota Health Information Network Selects Orion Health’s HIE Platform to Power Statewide Health Information Exchange

SANTA MONICA, Calif.-- Orion Health, the leader in eHealth technology, and the North Dakota Health Information Network (NDHIN) today announced that NDHIN has selected Orion Health HIE to power North Dakota’s statewide health information exchange (HIE). NDHIN providers will utilize Orion Health HIE to enhance a number of healthcare programs aimed at improving care transitions, streamlining physician-to-physician referrals and expanding existing immunization registry data, among others. Orion Health HIE will provide the technology backbone supporting NDHIN programs that advance the network’s core vision: Quality healthcare for all North Dakotans – anywhere, anytime.

After an extensive search process involving review of multiple HIE systems, North Dakota’s Health Information Technology Advisory Committee selected Orion Health HIE because of its powerful information sharing capabilities, its ability to easily integrate with various technology platforms utilized by government agencies and healthcare organizations across the state, and Orion Health’s experience making statewide health exchange initiatives successful and sustainable. NDHIN plans on deploying Orion Health HIE, which is anchored by its core solutions Orion Health Clinical Portal, Rhapsody Integration Engine and Clinical Data Repository, as a SaaS (software as a service) offering. Additionally, NDHIN will deploy value-added modules with Orion Health HIE: Orion Health Direct Secure Messaging, which will enable fast, secure, standards-compliant communications between various healthcare providers and organizations, and Orion Health Business Intelligence, which provides a platform to easily report on clinical information.

“As a large, sparsely populated state, the success of NDHIN depends on its ability to bridge multiple providers across several technology platforms,” said Sheldon Wolf, North Dakota Health Information Technology director. “The enhanced features of Orion Health HIE and Orion Health Direct Secure Messaging will ensure providers have access to the most recent patient information and the ability to securely communicate patient data quickly. These capabilities will help improve clinical communications between hospitals and physician practices while helping to expand preventative care programs, such as smoking cessation and the state immunization registry.”

“The implementation of Orion Health HIE with Orion Health Direct Secure Messaging is another step forward for NDHIN,” said Paul Viskovich, president, Orion Health North America. “As NDHIN moves forward and continues to expand, Orion Health will draw upon its years of experience working with and deploying statewide and countrywide HIEs to ensure all providers are able to deliver the highest quality care.”
