DataMotion Selected by Michigan Health Information Network to Provide Direct Secure Messaging Services

EAST LANSING, Mich. and FLORHAM PARK, N.J., July 14, 2014--Following a rigorous competitive evaluation, Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN) has designated DataMotion™, an innovative Health Information Service Provider (HISP), as an Approved Direct Vendor (ADV) for MiHIN and the Direct Marketplace for Michigan (DMM). DataMotion's Direct Secure Messaging service will help qualified data sharing organizations and healthcare providers easily and inexpensively exchange health information securely in Michigan in full compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.

Qualifying considerations leading to the ADV designation for DataMotion included:

  • Full accreditation by the Direct Trusted Agent Accreditation Program (DTAAP) for HISPs from DirectTrust.org and the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC)
  • Status as a Trusted Participant in the DirectTrust Accredited Trust Bundle
  • Capability to integrate with MiHIN's statewide Health Provider Directory (HPD), MiHIN's Record Locator Service (RLS), and MiHIN's Federated Identity Management (FIdM)/Identity Exchange Hub

"DataMotion not only met our requirements for industry credentials like EHNAC-DTAAP accreditation, they exceeded our expectations when it came to technical abilities, references and their live demonstration," said MiHIN's Associate Director, Jeff Livesay. "DataMotion also impressed us with its ability to easily integrate with shared services provided by MiHIN such as our Health Provider Directory based in SalesForce.com and our Identity Exchange Hub using Federated Identity Management to provide trusted single sign-on between multiple healthcare-related systems. DataMotion's innovative approach to integrating their HISP with our statewide Provider Directory is so elegant and straightforward that any other HISP can re-use the same approach to easily connect with Michigan's statewide Provider Directory, completely bypassing complex issues surrounding the federation approach to communicating between multiple directories embedded within HISPs."

"MiHIN's strategy to implement Direct as a core functionality for deploying other HIE services positions us to thrive in the rapidly-developing health information sector," said Bob Janacek, chief technology officer at DataMotion. "MiHIN is a leader in the electronic exchange of health information and a model nationwide. We're pleased to be part of MiHIN's strategy and share their view that the highly affordable secure messaging provided by Direct is critical for improving patient care while reducing costs."

The ADV designation by MiHIN further solidifies DataMotion's position as a leading HISP. Recently, DataMotion reported it has enabled or is under contract to enable 36 electronic health record (EHR) systems to achieve Office of the National Coordinator Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ACB) 2014 Certification using the DataMotion Direct secure messaging service as "relied upon software." The HISP also announced the service is now interoperable with EpicCare EMR and MEDITECH, enabling customers of these leading EHR vendors to attest for Meaningful Use Stage 2 (MU2) and qualify for financial incentives from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

DataMotion was founded in 1999, and today, millions of desktop, tablet and mobile users leverage its proven, cloud-based data delivery platform to securely transmit protected health information (PHI). In the fall of 2012, the company expanded operations as a HISP and introduced DataMotion Direct. This breakthrough secure messaging service offers easy-to-use data transfer capabilities for "real-world" healthcare communications including secure email for sending and receiving PHI, summary of care documents and large images for both in and out-of-network communications. It also allows organizations to quickly integrate with the Direct Project, comply with MU2 and qualify for subsidies from the ONC. As a result, DataMotion Direct has grown rapidly and now serves organizations across the healthcare spectrum, including healthcare providers, EHR, HIE and interface engine vendors.

Cardiovascular devices are more likely to be in a Class I recall than any other device type. The FDA's approval process appears to be at least partially responsible, though the agency is working to make some serious changes. We spoke to a researcher who has been tracking these data for years to learn more.

Updated compensation data includes good news for multiple subspecialties. The new report also examines private equity's impact on employment models and how much male cardiologists earn compared to females.

When drugs are on the FDA’s shortage list, outsourcing facilities can produce their own compounded versions. When the FDA removed tirzepatide from that list with no warning, it created a considerable amount of chaos both behind the scenes and in pharmacies all over the country.
