Surescripts and Kryptiq Agree to Separate Health Information Network and Population Health Businesses

ARLINGTON, Va.--Surescripts, the nation's largest health information network, has agreed to spin off CareManager™, its population health business. The new company will be run by Luis Machuca and the current Kryptiq management team and will retain the name Kryptiq. Surescripts will maintain a minority ownership interest in Kryptiq and will operate the secure messaging, e-prescribing, and portal technologies as part of its subsidiary to be renamed Surescripts Enterprise Services, Inc.

“Over the past three years, Surescripts and Kryptiq have become clear market leaders, and we are best positioned for continued success by operating these businesses separately,” said Tom Skelton, Chief Executive Officer of Surescripts. “In order to truly connect healthcare, we must focus on our core business and leverage our unique and valuable assets that allow us to serve new markets and deliver new capabilities to our customers.”Surescripts acquired Kryptiq as a wholly owned subsidiary in 2012 to enhance its nationwide e-prescribing network by combining it with Kryptiq’s secure clinical messaging and patient portal technologies. Today, the Surescripts network connects more than 700 electronic health records (EHR) vendors, 800,000 healthcare professionals, more than 95 percent of pharmacies, and more than 1,000 hospitals.

“The population health market is dynamic, growing, and international,” said Luis Machuca, CEO of Kryptiq. “The majority of healthcare providers are adopting some form of population management, but it is becoming apparent that their current IT systems will not support longitudinal care coordination.”

Kryptiq will continue to offer CareManager, an integrated suite of population health and patient relationship applications for care providers. IDC Health Insights named CareManager a leader in this rapidly growing market due to its completeness, maturity and unique capabilities. CareManager is the only population health management solution capable of bi-directional integration with multiple EHRs, according to IDC.1
