FCC head visits Cleveland Clinic to see ins and outs of telehealth

Telehealth caught the attention of Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai, who visited the Cleveland Clinic March 16 to learn more about how its implementation is providing improved care to those in need.

Pai's visit covered how telehealth and mobile applications are connecting physicians and patients. Pai, whose father was a physician in rural Kansas, has witnessed challenges that may be overcome with remote care.

"It provides direct access to healthcare providers in a way patients previously couldn't have had," he said. "Instead of having a patient come in and take time off from work, and find childcare for the kids, and other things that create a big hassle; now a physician is able to engage with her patient on a mobile app and get her vital signs and other information remotely. It's better for everybody."
