ACOs Using Lightbeam Health Solutions Net $84 Million in Savings for CMS Medicare Shared Savings Program, Doubling Average Savings of Other ACOs

IRVING, Texas – Sept. 19, 2016 – Lightbeam Health Solutions, Inc., a leader in end-to-end population health management solutions, announced today that Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) using Lightbeam technology delivered $83.8 million in savings to the 2015 Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP), fully 20 percent of all MSSP savings in 2015, according to the ACO Financial Report from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Established through the Affordable Care Act, the MSSP facilitates coordination and cooperation among providers that form ACOs to improve the quality of care and reduce unnecessary costs.

A total of 392 ACOs participated in the 2015 MSSP program, generating more than $429 million in CMS total savings. Lightbeam clients composed 9 percent of the MSSP’s participating ACOs, and delivered 20 percent of total program savings in 2015.

The report data illustrated that while the average 2015 savings of non-Lightbeam ACOs was approximately $972,000, ACOs using Lightbeam’s end-to-end platform for population health initiatives achieved average savings of $2,267,000, more than twice the savings of non-Lightbeam ACOs.

“It’s gratifying to see Lightbeam ACO clients deliver such significant savings to the MSSP and CMS while also setting the bar for quality scores,” said Pat Cline, CEO of Lightbeam. “While accounting for saving surplus and deficits, Lightbeam ACOs generated 2.3 times the savings of non-Lightbeam clients, which is a result that speaks for itself. Lightbeam is giving healthcare providers unprecedented visibility into clinical data and claims data at the point of care, which is core to the kinds of success our population health clients are having.”

The CMS MSSP report also showed that only four ACOs scored a perfect 100 percent in quality, and two of those ACOs use Lightbeam solutions. Overall, Lightbeam ACOs registered an average quality score of 92.40 percent, compared with non-Lightbeam ACOs’ an average quality score of 91.33 percent.

As healthcare organizations move from fee-for-service to value-based care, the MSSP seeks to improve outcomes through better care for individuals, better health for populations, and decreasing expenditure growth. The MSSP rewards ACOs that lower their growth in healthcare costs while meeting performance standards on quality of care and putting patients first.
