8.8 million New Yorkers give consent to put health records on state-wide network
With the slew of hacking reports coming from all over the nation its finally good to see patients being able to trust their healthcare networks with their information. The New York eHealth Collaborative has announced that over 8 million New Yorkers have given consent to their healthcare providers to access their records through a state-wide network, SHIN-NY.
The Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY) holds the patient records for over 40 million people and processes 2.8 million transactions every month. The network, after five years in development, aims to offer patients peace of mind.
“The SHIN-NY allows New York State healthcare providers to access important healthcare information to achieve better coordination of care of patients across New York State. We are quickly approaching the moment when patients can be confident that health records from one provider can be viewed by another provider without having to transfer physical copies or faxing of documents” said Howard Zucker, MD, Commissioner of Health for New York State.
This step in allowing doctors the access to patient information securely and effectively bring the industry closer to having quicker, more efficient online operations.
