American Osteopathic Association names new president
The American Osteopathic Association (AOA) named a new president July 25 as it refines its osteopathic principles.
Boyd Buser, a doctor of osteopathic medicine, was appointed to the top position at the AOA at the organization’s annual business meeting at its headquarters in Chicago, the organization said in a statement.
Buser is a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, dean of the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine and the vice president for health affairs and dean at the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. He previously served as president for the American Academy of Osteopathy.
The AOA represents more than 123,000 DOs and osteopathic medical students.
"We are at a turning point in healthcare, when the focus on wellness and prevention has never been greater,” said Buser in a statement. “Patients value our approach, how we partner with them to promote their health and wellbeing, whether the topic is preventing chronic disease or protecting patients from the threat of opioid addiction.”
In addition to appointing Buser, the AOA also named Mark Baker, DO, president-elect of the organization, a term that begins in July 2017. Baker currently works as an osteopathic diagnostic radiologist in Fort Worth, Texas.
