Why not run healthcare like a business?

Susan DeVote, president and CEO of Premier, says if you want to fix healthcare, you have to start from the inside. That means improving the delivery of healthcare by collaborating and sharing information on everything from medical supplies to the latest treatments, she told Forbes.

“Healthcare systems spend 20 to 30 percent of their costs on buying stuff,” DeVore said. “They buy drugs. They buy capital equipment. They buy medical devices. Overall, we have a $41 billion market opportunity to help healthcare systems buy together.”
