Survey: Independent docs concerned about ACA

Many independent physicians are concerned that they are not benefitting from the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and many remain in the dark as to how to take advantage of it, according to a survey released by Acentec, a Calif.-based IT solutions and consulting service provider.

The survey, which targeted independent, ambulatory medical practices across the country, including specialists and primary care providers, found that:

  • 64 percent have not yet been given the opportunity to accept patients through their state’s or the federal government’s health insurance exchanges
  • 77 percent expect the ACA to have a negative impact on their practice
  • 48 percent don’t expect the ACA to impact their patient volume

“These results show that independent physicians still feel confusion on how to deal with the Affordable Care Act, and that many are apprehensive about the future of their practices as a result,” said Jeff Mongelli, CEO of Acentec, in a statement.
