CareFirst taps Cognizant to support mHealth initiatives

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) selected Cognizant to support its mobile technology efforts for its 3.3 million members.

Under this partnership, Cognizant will establish a direct, secure connection for CareFirst members so they can utilize their smartphones and tablets to manage their health coverage, access information about physicians and claims, and obtain details about benefits. Cognizant will leverage its Mobility Testing Lab in Phoenix, for on-demand, cloud-based testing of mobile apps across multiple devices and carriers, according to an announcement.

"The ubiquity of smartphones and tablet devices, while rapidly changing customer expectations and operational needs, presents a powerful direct link for us to connect with our members and for our members to better manage their health care," Harry D. Fox, senior vice president for technical and operational support services at CareFirst, said in a statement.

This is not Cognizant’s only partnership with CareFirst. The company also provides business consulting, systems integration and application development solutions to support the insurer’s strategic and regulatory initiatives.
