The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) issued an updated ICD-10 implementation timeline to account for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ recent decision to extend the ICD-10 compliance deadline from Oct. 1, 2013 to Oct. 1, 2014.

The timeline suggests milestones to help providers, payers and vendors plan for compliance. WEDI recognizes that different healthcare organizations and stakeholders have unique needs, but believes the timeline provides a common framework for planning. All organizations should currently be past the assessment stage and moving deep into the implementation stage, according to a Sept. 3 statement.

The Reston, Va.-based health IT coalition developed the timeline with the North Carolina Healthcare Information & Communication Alliance, a 230-organization provider consortium headquartered in Research Triangle Park, N.C.

The timeline is available on the WEDI website.
