AHIMA opens global services office in Belgium

The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) has opened a global services office in Brussels, Belgium.

AHIMA said the decision to extend its outreach internationally was rooted in the association's commitment to accurate health data. Also, AHIMA sees its outreach as a "response to globalization trends and implications in healthcare including digitization, e-health, cross-border care, medical travel and telemedicine."

AHIMA President Vera Rulon noted the importance of AHIMA's transnational outreach to propel health information management (HIM) industry standards, grow its certified workforce and accredit the educational systems required to advance the HIM practice globally.

Through the newly established office, AHIMA is looking to develop new business opportunities and build collaborative relationships, as well as monitor the global health information environment.
