Amazon appoints leader of new pharmacy business
Months after acquiring online pharmacy PillPack for approximately $1 billion, Amazon has appointed a 14-year veteran with the company to lead its new pharmacy business, CNBC reported. Nader Kabbani has been named vice president of consumables, special projects.
The PillPack team reports to Kabbani, CNBC reported. Kabbani previously worked on Amazon’s Kindle platform and was vice president in the company’s Flex and logistics businesses. The pharmacy business represents a significant opportunity for Amazon as it continues to branch into new industries, particularly healthcare.
“With PillPack, Amazon is poised to take a slice of the growing home delivery market, though it could also potentially incorporate retail pharmacy offerings at Whole Foods locations, after buying the upscale grocery chain for more than $13 billion in 2017,” CNBC reported.
Amazon’s impact on the space has already been apparent, with stocks of other major pharmacies dropping at the time the company acquired PillPack.
