Unsurprising but noteworthy: Judging by the ages of doctors who are all in with AI in 2026—and the ages of those who aren’t—the technology remains more a thing of the future than of the present. 

Some 26 attorneys general have signed onto an initiative urging Congress to federally regulate the AI industry “immediately.” One of the voices countering the call is coming from inside the Big Tech arena. 

The new entity, Precure, will be owned by both groups. Its work in detecting early disease for timely intervention stems from a research project launched this summer. The Mayo Clinic said Precure will make the results of that initiative actionable.

The group was able to bill programs for COVID-19 tests and medical devices using artificial intelligence voices to justify claims submissions.

This summer researchers at Stanford and the Arc Institute showed how AI trained on data from existing viral genomes can come up with entirely new viruses. If that doesn’t trouble you at least a little, you may be an AI bot yourself.  

What would it take to put just about every medical institution on par with Mayo Clinic in sheer quality of care? Not a lot more than better use of AI.
