Bill in Congress would rein in PBMs, force divestment from pharmacies

The Patients Before Monopolies Act was introduced into both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives with bipartisan support. If it passes, pharmacy benefit managers would be required to divest from retail stores.

Thomas Shaknovsky, MD, is accused in a civil lawsuit of removing a patient’s liver instead of spleen, causing his death. The surgeon, who lost his license to practice medicine in Florida, has also been criminally charged with second degree manslaughter. He denies any intentional wrongdoing.
