A year in the news: Surprise!

First, although meaningful use dominated media coverage and permeated the health IT discussion across the U.S., the most read CMIO story was not our coverage of CMS' release of final rules, nor subsequent clarifications, nor EHR certification news. (The final rules story did make the top 10, however.) The top honor went to our Web Exclusive, “IT soothes ED pain points.” If anyone needed it, this is further proof that immediate concerns aren’t confined to EHR implementation.
Second--and maybe less of a surprise--magazine-based content is still relevant. When we ran our 2010 stats via Google Analytics, five magazine features cracked the top 10, including two of the top three. (These statistics don’t include the digital issue of the magazine, which would likely skew magazine views higher.)
Leading the print charge was a story from February’s issue, “Breaking Down The Walls of Home Health IT.” It was a harbinger of the national discussions surrounding patient-centered medical homes and accountable care organizations, which cranked up the volume in the second half of the year.
It was also interesting to discover that CMIOs like to know not only what their colleagues are doing, but also what they’re earning. “CMIO 2010 Compensation Survey: The Results Are In!” was our third most read feature of the year. This bodes well for the February 2011 issue, which will include the highlights from our second annual CMIO Compensation survey.
Makes me wonder what the top 10 list for 2011 will look like. Feel free to send me your predictions.
In the meantime, I wish you and yours a healthy, safe and happy New Year!
