Wal-Mart elimination of insurance may signal move to single-payer model

Wal-Mart’s elimination of health insurance coverage for 30,000 part-time workers may actually be a boom to more progressive health reform models like a single-payer system, according to Salon.

While employees expressed frustration, health insurance under the Affordable Care Act actually offers them greater financial assistance than the company itself would provide.

“[A] shift away from employer-provided coverage could help achieve a single-payer insurance model, a goal long sought by many progressives,” according to the article.
