Verizon grants $15K to R.I. neonatal coordinated care team

The Verizon Foundation gave the Rhode Island Quality Institute a $15,000 grant to implement electronic provider alerts in a program that aims to coordinate care for preterm infants.

The funds from the philanthropic arm of the New York City-based telecommunications company will enable Women & Infants Hospital’s Transition Home Plus program to automatically alert its team, through a statewide health information exchange, when patients are admitted to the facility’s neonatal intensive care unit in Providence, R.I., according to a  Dec. 6 statement.

“Technology projects like this require significant upfront investments, but can be sustained at a comparatively low cost well into the future,” said Laura Adams, president and CEO of RIQI, a Providence-based nonprofit healthcare collaborative.
