Verizon enhances security services on digital health info
Verizon is adding new features and capabilities to its healthcare identity services to help healthcare organizations combat rising incidents of identity theft through access to digitized health information.
Through Verizon Universal Identity Services-Healthcare delivered in the cloud by Verizon’s Terremark IT services subsidiary, gives additional healthcare identity standards for accessing EHRs and health information exchanges (HIEs), as well as credentials for e-prescribing, including prescriptions for controlled substances.
In addition, the services will provide legally binding digital signatures for providers to digitally sign patient health information—such as treatment plans, electronic prescriptions, lab reports and discharge orders. Verizon said its ID Message Center lets users monitor and track digital signatures through a mobile application or web-based portal.
The service supports the code of federal regulations from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the FDA, which regulate the use of e-prescribing for controlled substances, according to the company. CFR-21 Part 11 of the FDA regulations provide for digital signature guidelines for the submission of EHRs.
