Varian, Imris to develop MR-guided radiotherapy system
Radiotherapy provider Varian Medical Systems and Winnipeg, Manitoba-based image-guided therapy developer Imris have finalized an agreement for the joint-development of an MR-guided radiation therapy system for cancer treatment.
Under the terms of the agreement, Palo Alto, Calif.-based Varian's TrueBeam system and Imris’ MRI technology will be combined to enable the use of MRI during radiotherapy treatments.
According to the companies, the system will be designed to permit a high-field MRI scanner to move in and out of the radiation therapy room to confirm tumor location prior to treatment. The system is expected to be offered in multi-room configurations.
