VA purchases exoskeleton systems for upcoming multi-center trial

ReWalk Robotic,  producers of wearable robotic exoskeletons for patients with spinal cord injuries, has been commissioned by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide 28 exoskeleton system to be used in a multi-center clinical trial.

The ReWalk Personal Exoskeleton Systems purchase follows another of 20 exoskeletons, totaling 48 system, to be used in a multi-year study. As the largest healthcare providers of patients with spinal injuries, the VA will conduct the first study to examine how the exoskeletons could function in a personal setting. The study plans on enrolling 160 patients at 10 different VA systems, splitting them into two groups of either receiving the exoskeleton or using a standard wheelchair.

"We are pleased to be able to support this clinical trial with the Department of Veterans Affairs as the study progresses and offers more Veterans with paralysis access to exoskeleton technology in their home," said Larry Jasinski, CEO of ReWalk Robotics. "The VA remains a national leader in its study of the impact of exoskeletons on the health and well-being of individuals utilizing these devices. ReWalk is proud to contribute to these efforts to those who have served."
