Two hospitals collaborate via McKesson CDS

Through the use of InterQual Criteria, a clinical decision support tool from McKesson, Banner Health of Phoenix and Morehead Memorial Hospital of Eden, N.C., are creating a common clinical language for payors and providers, and are increasing their collaboration.

Through the tool, Banner sought to capture, manage, track and measure utilization-related information via a standard workflow within its centralized case management department, according to the San Fransisco-based McKesson.

Morehead has used the InterQual criteria in a semi-automated system for years, and was looking to improve its care management processes. The hospital transitioned to an automated review process, enhancing its staff training. Seventeen months after implementation, Morehead was able to review an increased number of emergency room admissions and better direct to the most appropriate level of care, reducing the number of patients being admitted with an inaccurate status, the company said.
