Texas healthcare system expands footprint with purchase of neighboring hospital

Hermann Health System, the largest non-profit healthcare system in Texas with headquarters in Houston, is buying neighboring hospital Memorial Hermann Northeast, a 255-bed facility.

The move comes at a time when Hermann Health is focusing on making its services more accessible to patients. It recently built an urgent care center in Houston that opened in January 2013 and has plans to open another convenient care center in Kingwood, Texas in June 2017.

"As we project where health care is going, this positioned us to have the most flexibility possible to serve the community," said Heath Rushing, CEO and senior vice president at Memorial Hermann. "What our community expects is for us to provide convenient, accessible health care where the community is."
