Sutter Health to implement ICD-10 early

Sacramento-based Sutter Health is planning to go live with ICD-10 on May 31, 2014—four months ahead of the Oct. 1, 2014 compliance date, according to an article in Government Health IT.

Danielle Reno, ICD-10 program director for Sutter Health, announced its implementation date during a session at the American Health Information Management Association convention in Atlanta this week, according to the article.

The health system engaged in a tri-fold approach to prepare physicians for ICD-10, which included awareness campaigns on ICD-10 timelines and budgets, enlistment of physician champions, and peer-to-peer training. This equipped Sutter Health, which has 5,200 physicians, to proceed earlier with ICD-10, Reno told her audience.
