Senate bill offers provisions for Precision Medicine Initiative
A bill introduced in the Senate would "provide for the implementation of" the Precision Medicine Initiative.
Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) introduced the bill, "Advancing Precision Medicine Act of 2016," which would advance the initiative through the development of networks of scientists to carry out the initiative's mission, develop new approaches for addressing related issues and any other activities the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) deems appropriate to make headways in the initiative.
The bill suggests HHS coordinates with the Secretary of Energy and the private sector to discuss the "advanced supercomputing needs" required by the initiative.
While legislators approved $200 million for the initiative this year, this bill contains no language on funding.
