Nightingale, ExpeData ink digital pen integration deal

Nightingale Informatix has partnered with ExpeData to launch Clinipen, an integrated digital writing tool that healthcare providers can use to input structured data into a patient's EMR directly from paper.

The digital writing platform from ExpeData, of Miamisburg, Ohio, leverages Anoto's digital pen-and-paper technology and Vision Objects' handwriting recognition technologies.

The joint agreement between Nightingale and ExpeData will give each company distribution rights for the Clinipen technology products for the EMR industry in North America, according to the Markham, Ontario-based Nightingale, an application service provider of EMR software. Each company will maintain 50 percent ownership.

Nightingale On Demand, Nightingale's web-based EMR, will be the first tool integrated with Clinipen. The Clinipen-enabled tool for Nightingale On Demand is expected to be available to physicians in Canada and the U.S. during the fourth quarter of this calendar year, Nightingale said.
