With more young adults living at home or staying on their parents’ health insurance plans until age 26 under ACA rules, the New York Times says that has translated into more young adults continuing to see their pediatricians until well past the traditional 18-year cutoff.

One New York City practice specializes in treating adolescent and young adult men, including patients up to 25. Another New York pediatrician will see patients until they turn 35, and another says his patients have to go when they start having children of their own.

Some patients told the Times they are more comfortable with doctors they’ve known for years, or that insurance issues make it easier for them to stay on as pediatric patients into adulthood.
