More hospitals are closing and shrinking capacity

With the shift toward more outpatient care and an emphasis on limiting readmissions, hospitals are shrinking capacity or closing, Modern Healthcare reports.

Innovations in technology and improvements in the efficacy and safety of medications have contributed to people receiving care outside of hospitals. More people are enrolled in high deductible health plans, as well, causing them to postpone or forgo procedures.
