Mayo Clinic integrates symptom checker into patient portal
Mayo clinic has announced the integration of its Ask Mayo Clinic online symptom checker through Epic’s patient portal, MyChart.
The Ask Mayo Clinic online symptom checker is available 24/7 through any device connected to the internet. The tool guides users through a series of questions about their symptoms. It then uses standardized algorithms, based on the real-time data, to recommend care.
Using 36 algorithms detailing over 300 common symptoms, Ask Mayo Clinic online aims to improve outcomes by detecting the level of care needed based on the symptoms that are entered. The tool is constantly updated and reviewed to maintina a high level of accuracy.
“Ask Mayo Clinic online offers trusted and accessible care guidance when you need it—anytime, anywhere,” said Sandhya Pruthi, MD, a physician in the division of general internal medicine and associate medical director of Mayo Clinic Global Business Solutions. “Care guidance, based on the user’s selection of symptoms and responses to relevant questions, includes more information about possible causes tied to the symptoms, and, in most cases, provides recommendations on home care in nonemergent situations. We are pleased to work with Epic on offering easy-to-access, self-service symptom assessment to patients.”
