IBM, American Well expand security partnership

IBM and American Well have expanded a partnership to secure patient information that is collected and exchanged as part of American Well’s Online Care consultations with healthcare providers.

American Well, a Boston-based health IT software developer, partners with health plans, delivery networks and pharmacies to enable Online Care services that connect patients with primary care and specialty physicians and other clinicians whenever they have a health need, from their homes or workplaces.

As part of the expanded partnership, American Well will further integrate IBM's professional security services and skills into its application development process to create secure applications for the company’s telehealth system, according to IBM, of Armonk, N.Y.

IBM helps identify potential security issues, eliminate possible vulnerabilities and ensure American Well’s system safeguards personal health information and remains in compliance with data security guidelines, IBM stated.
