HIMSS: Verizon offers communication solutions, interoperability platform
Verizon Wireless showcased telehealth and mobility solutions for healthcare organizations, as well as its new IT Platform to aid in EHR adoption, at HIMSS10 in Atlanta this week.
The IT platform, the Verizon Medical Data Exchange, which was rolled out during the conference, is an interoperable platform that will allow for the sharing of digital patient records from medical transcription firms to physicians, hospitals and other caregivers.
Verizon also shared its wireless products and services and presented a healthcare solutions session hosted by the director of healthcare enterprise solutions for Verizon Wireless, John Maschenic.
The company displayed its portfolio of products that can be used on smartphones--some for the Verizon operating systems and others that work on all operating systems--including the PatientKeeper solution. This product allows physicians to retrieve to patient information across inpatient and ambulatory environments, as well as order prescriptions and works with all operating systems.
Another solution Verizon built with prescription management in mind is the Epocrates Rx. This product enables caregivers to access prescription information, including brand name and generic drugs, in addition to information regarding color, shape and drug interaction information. The solution is compatible with Verizon Wireless smartphones with the Android operating system.
