HIMSS: Intel launches Mayo study, educational web portal

At the recent HIMSS10 conference in Atlanta, Intel announced its patient monitoring study with Mayo Clinic and introduced its Start Now initiative, a web portal that contains text and video statements by healthcare leaders about what they are doing to change the future of healthcare today.

On the portal, viewers can read the statements as well as create their own text or video statement. Currently, statements on the portal from various CIOs, managers and medical directors range from physician decision making at the point of care, to streamlining caregiver workflow to improving healthcare for underserved populations.

Intel also announced a year-long research study at Mayo Clinic, which will determine if the home monitoring of 200 high-risk Mayo patients over the age of 60 who receive care in Rochester, Minn., would have improved health outcomes being treated remotely than if they were rehospitalized or brought to emergency departments. The study will utilize the Intel Health Guide, a next-generation remote patient monitoring solution designed to address the challenges of a chronically ill population, said Intel.
