HIMSS: Allscripts releases diabetes app, inks CVS Caremark EHR deal
Allscripts launched their integrated diabetes management system, MCT-Clinical for Diabetes, during the 2012 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual conference. The MyCare Team application enables patients and providers to collaborate to manage diabetes between visits and in the office, the company said.
The application enables patients and providers to collaborate to manage diabetes between visits and in the office, the company said.
Allscripts also announced that CVS CareMark’s MinuteClinic will transition from its proprietary EMR system to the Allscripts MyWay EHR. Michelson said he finds that move of retail health information into the mainstream fascinating. “It went from experimental to expected.” As a result, the marketplace has been very aggressive in retail health efforts, he said.
Michelson said that patient engagement is at the very earliest stages. “Patients haven’t had expectations.” If their healthcare information is in silos, it doesn’t flow to providers. New technology should continue to drive the effort, he said. For example, he said that adoption of patient portals “is good in pockets but certainly not pervasive.”
