HIMSS Video: William R. Hersh, MD

ORLANDO, Fla.—More often, CMIOs are seeking formal informatics training, said William R. Hersh, MD, professor and chair of the department of medical informatics and epidemiology at Oregon Health & Science University, in Portland, Ore, this week during the HIMSS 2011 conference.

Unlike many professions, a lot of CMIOs take on the role before they have any formal training in biomedical or other areas. In a video interview at HIMSS11, Hersh talks about the role of formal informatics instruction, especially with the changes in healthcare, expected and other wise, that are on the way. The good news: Medical informatics as a career choice will be around for a while, regardless of which way the political winds blow.
